Welcome to Year 3/4A. We are taught by Mrs Gough (mon-weds) and Mrs McLean (weds-fri), and are supported by Mrs Way and Miss Warner. Our classroom is always a busy place, full of learning and imagination. This is where we shall share our achievements and photos. Scroll down to find out what we have been getting up to recently, and for useful information such as letters, homework and spellings.
This half term the children are studying 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' in their Literacy and Guided Reading sessions. So far they have imagined entering Narnia, finding their classroom door had been turned into a wardrobe door, and used a variety of resources such as pine cones, snow and moth balls to aid a descriptive piece of writing.
This week, they focused on the scene where Edmund met the White Witch and asked for Turkish Delight. Many did not know what this sweet treat was and so we worked together to make some in class. Throughout the week, they then wrote instructions to guided someone else to make some for a gift. Here is some of their work:
The children are now half way through their topic 'Marvellous Me' and have enjoyed learning about how the human body works. They particularly liked learning about the digestive system... I wonder why!?
Our text in Literacy and Guided Reading has been 'The Iron Man'. The chapter about the space-bat-angel dragon really captured their imagination, which has led to some fantastic writing.
The class especially enjoyed their visit to Hazard Alley last week where they learnt about personal safety in a true to life village. Everyone had a go at putting someone in the recovery position, and they all helped to make a 999 call. We hope you have the skills to cope in a real life situation now.
This half term 3/4A have started cricket sessions with All Stars Cricket. Already they have covered the skills of throwing and catching, fielding, and batting. Don't forget PE kits are needed every Thursday please.
We would like to say a huge thank you to 3/4A for selflessly giving up their classroom to Year 6 pupils during their SATS week. We know you have had to sit on very small chairs for most of the week, and carry books and pencil pots backwards and forwards between classes, but you have done it without a single moan. Thank you!
We have had a very busy week in Year 3/4A. The children started the week with a visit from the Dog's Trust, linked to the school value of caring. They really enjoyed learning about how to take care of this popular pet. Later in the week, the children finished their Egyptian headresses, made in Design Technology.
Well done to Heidi and Rhys for winning the egg competition.
